This HAND PIECED Pinwheel quilt dates to the 1920's and is made using cotton scrap bag prints and solids for the pinwheels (some from the 1890's) including many Indigo prints, double pink prints, bright red & white prints, and shirting prints, and a lavender and white gingham for the background. Measuring 80" x 80", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with angle quilting over the entire quilt @ 9 to 10 neat and tiny stitches per inch counting one side only. In clean UNUSED condition, we find no rips, tears or stains, just a light cedar scent from being stored in a blanket chest for many years. With all the colors in this quilt, it would fit into any decor!

We've not seen this variation of a Dresden Plate quilt before! From the 1920's it's HAND PIECED & HAND APPLIQUED using scrap bag cotton feed sack prints for the inner plates, a lavender 1/4" wide ring holding half dresden plate pieces, lavender for the 2-3/4" wide frame, and butter yellow for the background. The quilt measures 78" x 68", has a very thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding (yellow on 3 sides and white on the 4th), and a white back. HAND QUILTED with consecutive circle quilting on the plates, sunflowers (with square centers) and diamond quilting on the background and across the frame and border @ 11 very neat and tiny stitches per inch counting one side only. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors, just a CLEAN, UNUSUAL PASTEL QUILT!!

Antique Shoo Fly Quilt w/Berry Print Sashing

In Ohio we call this early 1920's quilt a Shoo Fly. The 42 blocks are treadle sewing machine pieced using many scrap bag cotton period prints (and some from as early as 1870) with shirting prints for the background, and a berry print on light blue for the sashing between the 8-7/8" x 10-1/2" blocks ~ no 2 blocks are alike! The quilt measures 74" x 65" (perfect for a day bed, sofa or garden bench), has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with light pencil marks visible, there is diamond quilting on the pieced blocks and ring quilting on the sashing and border @ 6 stitches per inch. In UNUSED, UNWASHED condition, we find no rips, tears or odors, just a couple very small storage spots. VERY GRAPHIC!!

Fabulous Antique Tree of Life Quilt

I would imagine that women of the last half of the 19th century were estatic with the invention of the treadle sewing machine, which saved so much time when piecing geometric quilts such as this 1890's Tree of Life. Made using just 2 cotton fabrics ~ a tiny red tulip on butterscotch print, and bright white for the background ~ it measures 86" x 74", has a thin cotton batting, a machine and hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED by several hands, it has straightline quilting across the pieced blocks, Ohio rose type quilting on the white background blocks, and Chevron quilting making diamonds on the border @ 7 to10 neat and tiny stitches per inch counting just one side. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found one area on the border with sun fade, which doesn't detract from the quilt. FRESH & CLEAN & READY TO USE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!!

The Quaker City, OH maker of this 1880's Patchwork quilt must have depleted her entire scrap bag when making this HAND PIECED beauty! There's copper toned madder prints, red prints from the 1860's, and cotton prints of all colors and designs for both the 1-3/4" and 1-1/4" squares. Five large 9 Patch blocks make up one large block with a gold on yellow print for the background, while the smaller 9 patch blocks appear at the crossings of the double pink sprig print sashing. The quilt measures 84" x 84", has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied pink, brown & white print binding, and a Quaker City feed sack back. HAND QUILTED with angle quilting over the entire quilt @ 10 very neat and tiny stitches per inch counting one side only. This UNUSED, UNWASHED combination 4 Patch/Dresden Plate quilt has ten HAND PIECED plates made with many scrap bag cotton prints and solids and HAND APPLIQUED to an unbleached muslin background, and ten 4 patches in tan and sky blue solids which are also used in the pieced frame on 2 ends. This quilt measures 86" x 75", has a very thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with flowers in the centers of the plates and "picture frame" quilting around each plate, large flowers quilted on each of the patch blocks, and angle quilting on the borders @ 8 neat and tiny stitches per inch. DATED 1941 in blue thread on one back corner, there were initials at one time, but the thread has been pulled out. In UNUSED, UNWASHED CRISP CONDITION, we found no rips, tears or odors, just a couple light storage spots.

The background is a bright white, and all the fabrics are cotton. The quilt measures 80" x 75", has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a white back. HAND QUILTED with outline quilting on all the pieces, feather quilting on the sashing between the blocks, and running diamonds on the borders @ 8 neat and tiny stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears or odors, but a couple ink spots on the border.

This combination Bears Paw Garden Maze quilt is HAND PIECED and dates to the 1890's. Using scrap bag cotton fabrics, she made 16 blocks of Bears Paws connected by an X, with no 2 blocks the same. She then used a Garden Maze pattern with a black & white print inside a double pink print that surrounds each pieced block. The quilt measures 76" x 76", has a cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with double angle quilting across the pieced blocks, and pumpkin seed quilting on the maze @ 7 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors.

The maker of this 1880's Irish Chain HAND PIECED quilt used a combination of Irish Chain and 4 Patch patterns when making this all cotton Red, White & Blue quilt. She used a tiny white print on Indigo and either a pastel shirting print or a white muslin for the pieces, along with several alizarin red prints to make the crosses, and a white print on Cadet blue for the background. Measuring 82" x 82", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a muslin back. HAND QUILTED with angle quilting over the entire quilt @ 7 stitches per inch. This Sawtooth Center Square quilt from the 1930's was Mennonite made using just 2 cotton fabrics ~ a solid peach for the frame, and a bright white for the center square and 14-1/2" deep borders. Measuring 94" x 78", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting in the center, outline quilting inside each sawtooth piece, feather quilting on the peach, and straighline, feather and running Chevron quilting on the deep borders @ 7 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors, just a CLEAN & SIMPLE 2 COLOR QUILT ~ VERY GRAPHIC!!

From the 1880's comes this wonderful Indigo Blue Bow Tie quilt, as crisp as the day it was made! HAND PIECED using many early scrapbag fabrics (some from the 1860's), the background is a white "Y" on deep Indigo Blue. Measuring 67" x 64" (great size for a sofa throw!), it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied rose sprig binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting over the face and chevron quilting over the deep borders @ 6 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED FOR THE FIRST TIME, we find no rips, tears or odors, but a couple very light spots, mainly on the back. A FABULOUS CLEAN QUILT!!

This Tulip Applique quilt from the 1930's is HAND APPLIQUED with each light or medium pink tulip and dark green leaf attached to the bright white background with pink thread in a modified blanket stitch. The medium green stems were machine sewn. The quilt is made of all cotton fabrics, measures 84" x 74", has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied slightly scalloped binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with U quilting on each tulip, diamond quilting inside the tulip rings, chevron and floral quilting on the background, single rope quilting on the bright pink frame, and double rope quilting on the border @ 9 very neat and very tiny stitches per inch counting just one side. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears or odors, but a couple light rust stains on one end, so light they don't show up in the last photo. This Spring Beauty is still VERY CRISP!!

Measuring 88" x 80", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with outline quilting inside each piece, angle, square and running feather quilting on the background, and diamond quilting on the white frame @ 7 stitches per inch. From the 1940's comes this Flower and Grape HAND APPLIQUED antique quilt in lavender and green on a creamy white background in solid colored cottons. The maker turned the seams in on the tiny grapes, so they appear to be stuffed. Measuring 96" x 76", it has no batting, double frames, a hand applied scalloped lavender binding (some wear) and a creamy white back. HAND QUILTED with floret's in the flower centers, outline quilting around the flowers and each grape, running chain quilting on the background, and loop type quilting on the borders @ 9 very neat and tiny stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we find no rips, tears, or odors, just a couple tiny spots and some wear to the binding. Although this quilt has no batting, it still weighs over 4 pounds!

Jacobs Ladder Antique Quilt

Many inventions were made just after the Civil War, but none were as welcome to the women of that time than the sewing machine - such a timesaver!! This 1870's antique quilt is a mixture of the old and new as the Jacobs Ladder blocks are HAND PIECED in many cotton scrap bag fabrics including Indigo and Cadet blues, Turkey Red, Cranberry, and black & white mourning prints, then cinnamon pink was machine sewn to form the sashing and borders. This beautiful quilt measures 78" x 74", has a machine applied over dyed green printed binding, and a blue and cream mini checked back. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting on the pieced blocks, concentric arc and rope quilting on the sashing, and angle quilting on the borders @ 8 neat and tiny stitches per inch. In UNUSED, UNWASHED, CLEAN CONDITION, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors, but the dyes used in the over dyed green printed binding have started to split the binding at the fold line in several places - very minor.
