A difficult pattern, this c 1870's Carpenters Square is HAND PIECED using a double pink sprig cotton print and a bright white cotton. It measures 92" x 76", has a thin cotton batting with seed fragments and a bright white back, which was brought around to the front and hand stitched to form the 1/8" wide binding. HAND QUILTED with angle quilting over the entire quilt @ 7 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears or odors, just a couple light & tiny spots.

Bright & Colorful 2 Generation PA Antique Hourglass/Bars Crib Quilt

This colorful antique Pennsylvania Hour Glass/Bars quilt began as an 1880's HAND PIECED top made using various period scrap bag cotton prints for the hour glasses and Turkey Red, Cheddar or Spruce Blue for the bars with Cheddar and Turkey Red for the double border. The quilt was finished in the 1930's using paisley printed feed sacks in greens & browns on white for the back. Measuring 69" x 60", it has no batting, and a binding made by bringing the feed sack backing fabric around to the front and hand stitching in place. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting over the face and angle quilting on the borders @ 7 stitches per inch. In clean condition, we found no rips, tears or odors, and just a couple light & tiny storage spots. WOULD MAKE A FABULOUS SOFA THROW OR WALL HANGING!!

This 1930's Double Wedding Ring quilt is HAND PIECED using many colorful cotton prints from the makers scrap bag for the rings, medium peach & blue solids for the cross pieces, and bleached muslin for the background. It measures 88" x 71" inside the scalloped border, has a thin cotton batting, a machine applied binding, and a bleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with diamonds over the entire quilt @ 6 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors. 1860's Antique Patchwork Quilt w/Green Sashing

This c 1860's Patchwork quilt is HAND PIECED using many period scrap bag prints for the 2-1/2" squares, several shirting and dress prints for the background, and a overdyed green & yellow floral print for the sashing. Measuring a large 101" x 83", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with 2 sizes of diamond quilting (larger diamonds over the pieced blocks, smaller diamonds on the sashing) @ 6 stitches per inch. In UNUSED, UNWASHED condition, we found no rips, tears or odors, just a couple light and tiny storage spots. GREAT LOOK, GREAT COLORS, GREAT QUILT!!

Colorful Silk Diamonds & Squares Antique Quilt

We can't help but wonder what this 1860 to 1880's Diamond & Square quilt looked like when it was brand new, since it's still Ultra Graphic! HAND PIECED, each of the 255 five inch square blocks is made from scrap bag pieces of silk ~ a square in the center of a diamond in the center of a square ~ and is surrounded by decorative embroidery work in silk thread. A lot of work went into this quilt! It measures 85" x 74", has no batting, a hand applied binding (some splits), and a MARVELOUS glazed cotton (Chintz) back in chestnut brown. The back is held to the front by the decorative stitching on the binding. In "as found" condition, we found silk damage (mostly on the fold lines ~ normal for a silk quilt of this age), and an "old" smell from being stored for so many years. Definitely a "Show" piece, it would make a FABULOUS wall hanging!

This 1930's Bears Paw quilt is HAND PIECED using just 2 cotton fabrics - a floral and diamond print on bright yellow for the paws, center squares and pieced border, and a bright white for the background. Measuring 86" x 74", it has a very thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with light pencil marks visible, it has angle quilting across the paws, diamond quilting between the paws and on the pieced border, and chain quilting on the sashing and white border pieces @ 9 neat and tiny stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors, just a BRIGHT & COLORFUL ANTIQUE QUILT!

From the 1890's comes this HAND PIECED Hole in the Barn Door quilt made of cotton fabrics including Indigo & white prints for the "holes", black on white shirting prints for the block background, and burgundy & white prints for the alternating blocks. The maker also added a 1-1/2" wide frame on 2 sides and borders on the other 2 - very unusual! Measuring 82" x 70", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with double straightline quilting across the pieced blocks and diamond quilting on the background and borders @ 6 stitches per inch. UNUSED & UNWASHED, we found no rips, tears or odors, but a couple light spots. GRAPHIC & CRISP!!

The maker also added a 4-1/4" wide frame in an Indigo print on 2 sides of the quilt. Measuring 84" x 68", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and an unbleached muslin back. HAND QUILTED with double angle quilting across the pieced blocks, square quilting on the alternating blocks, and angle quilting on the border @ 6 to 7 stitches per inch. IN UNUSED, UNWASHED CONDITION, we find no rips, tears or odors, but a couple light storage spots. GREAT LOOK, SUPER CLEAN, GREAT QUILT!!

This 1890's Diamond Irish Chain variation quilt is HAND PIECED using a tiny white dot on Indigo blue cotton and a pink Chambray cotton for the 1-1/2" square pieces, and a bright white cotton for the background. The maker also added a 3" wide frame in the same Indigo blue fabric. Measuring 82" x 82", it has a thin cotton batting with a few seed fragments, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting over the entire quilt @ 11 very neat and very tiny stitches per inch counting just one side. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors, but light sun fading to the frame and one piece in one area (see photos). CLEAN, FRESH & GRAPHIC!!

Unusual Flying Geese Cross Antique Quilt

We've had quite a few Flying Geese quilts, but never one with this variation! This 1870's example has 25 blocks HAND PIECED with tiny triangles (the longest side measures just 1-1/2") made from cotton scrap bag prints forming crosses, with a bright white solid cotton for the background, sashing and frame, an overdyed floral print surrounding each block (also used for the frame), with two old repairs in darker green (shown). The border is an overdyed green on yellow print. The quilt measures 73" x 73", has a very thin cotton batting, a hand applied bright Turkey Red binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with square quilting on the blocks, running wave quilting on the sashing, and rope quilting over the frame and borders @ 11 to 12 very neat and very tiny stitches per inch counting one side only. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors, just an UNUSUAL, VERY GRAPHIC, CLEAN QUILT!!

Refreshing Antique Irish Chain Quilt

This 1930's Irish Chain quilt is hand and machine pieced using all cotton fabrics - a bright Kelly green and a red & white diamond print for the chains, and a bright white for the background - with each chain piece just 1" wide. Measuring 84" x 77", it has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied sage green binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with straightline quilting across the chain, diamond quilting on the background, and angle quilting on the borders @ 8 neat and tiny stitches per inch. Antique Hand Appliquéd Crib Quilt

We had the "sister" unfinished quilt top to this 1920's Childs Appliqué quilt, and printed in ink on one side of the top was "Bucilla Child Bedspread" with a pattern number. We're sure this is a Bucilla kit too, just don't know the pattern number. It's all HAND APPLIQUED using bright cotton fabrics for the hot air balloon, the steam boat, the church, horse & buggy and train, with fine embroidered details galore, especially in the faces of the children! Measuring 84" x 60", it has a thin cotton batting, a tiny 1/2" wide hand appliquéd royal blue frame, a deep sky blue border, hand applied royal blue binding, and a white back. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting on the face, floral quilting on the deep white frame, and diamond quilting on the border @ 8 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors. GREAT ANTIQUE QUILT FOR THAT NEW BABY IN YOUR LIFE!!

This early 1900's quilt is known around here as a Brick Pavement pattern, with 6" x 2" "bricks" in a Cadet blue print, a salmon checked print, and a pale blue & white shirting-type print. The blocks were alternated by color and direction in the same pattern that brick streets were laid! The quilt measures 81" x 74", has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a grey & white checked back. HAND QUILTED with light pencil marks visible, it has diamond quilting over the blocks and angle quilting on the borders @ 8 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED FOR THE FIRST TIME, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors. A CLEAN, CRISP, GRAPHIC QUILT!!

From the 1930's comes this HAND PIECED Maple Leaf variation quilt made using just 2 cotton fabrics - a rose color for the leaves and binding, a bright white for the background, and both for the sawtooth frame. The quilt measures 76" x 76", has a thin cotton batting, a hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with double straightline quilting on the pieced blocks, spider web type quilting on the background blocks, and angle quilting across the frame and border @ 7 to 8 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors, just a CLEAN, CRISP, 2 COLOR QUILT!!

Unused, Unwashed Antique 9 Patch Quilt w/Reverse Sawtooth Binding

Another patchwork quilt (one of three from the same maker), this UNUSED, UNWASHED 1870's 9 Patch is HAND PIECED using many period cotton scrap bag fabrics for the 2" square patches, including many deep Indigo blue prints, a red & black floral print on Chrome yellow for the background, with a pink on pink (double pink) print for the frame and border. The maker also added a saw tooth binding using the Chrome yellow print, applied using the latest invention - a treadle sewing machine! The quilt measures 83" x 67", has a very thin cotton batting, and an unbleached muslin for the back. HAND QUILTED with light pencil quilting marks visible, it has straightline quilting across the 9 patch blocks, straightline quilting from both directions forming 9 patches in the center on the background blocks, and angle quilting across the frame and borders @ 8 stitches per inch. In UNUSED, UNWASHED condition, we see just a couple very light storage spots, but no rips, tears, or odors. In fact, it still has the basting stitches on the saw tooth binding! BRIGHT & IN ORIGINAL CRISP CONDITION!!

1870's Chips in the Basket Antique Quilt

This tri-color Chips in the Basket antique quilt from the 1870's is HAND PIECED using Turkey Red, butterscotch, and green cotton fabrics for the baskets with 2 slightly different shades of cream for the background. It measures 85" x 84", has a very thin cotton batting, a hand applied green binding, and a cream back. HAND QUILTED with the pencil marks still visible, it has large diamond quilting on the baskets blocks, folky sunflowers with 1/2" square centers and tiny diamond corners for the background blocks, and triple rope quilting on the borders @ 8 neat and tiny stitches per inch. In UNUSED, UNWASHED, ORIGINAL CONDITION, we find no rips, tears or odors, but a couple very light and small storage spots (worst one shown in close-up photo, less than 1/4") - MAGNIFICENT!!
